The plane turned to the right after take-off: Aviation Authority
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has informed that a Saurya Airlines aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu in the right direction. The accident occurred at a location east of the runway where the aircraft had been waiting.
The Coordination Center for Search and Rescue, as per the authority’s notice issued on Wednesday, mentioned that CRJ-7 (Registration – 9N-AME) had departed from Kathmandu Airport for Pokhara at 11:11 AM. After the accident, a fire broke out in the aircraft, resulting in the death of 18 passengers.
Pilot Manish Ratna Shakya was on board and was sent to Kathmandu Medical College for treatment, stating that he survived. Captain Manish Ratna Shakya (Ghayte) and co-pilot Sushant Katuwal were on the plane.
Sushant has been reported dead. Employees on the plane included Amit Man Maharjan, Sagar Acharya, Dilip Varma, Manuraj Sharma, Ashwin Niroula, Sudeep Lal Joshi, Sarvesh Marasini, Shyam Vindukar, Nawaraj Ale, Rajaram Acharya, Priza Khatiwada, Adhiraj Sharma, Uddhav Puri, Yajna Prasad Poudel, Santosh Mahato, Punyarathna Shahi, and Aarif Reda, who also died. Aarif was identified as a foreign national from Yemen.
