Hall fined 120,000 for showing a long advertisement before the film

Every minute is valuable. A man from Bangalore, India, has fined Indian cinema chains PVR-Inox (now merged) for wasting his time. Abhishek MR, who had gone to see the movie ‘Sam Bahadur’, had filed a case against the multiplex in the consumer court saying that he had wasted 25 minutes of his time. He had approached the court alleging that the multiplex was wasting his time by showing advertisements for a long time before the film started.

The court has fined the hall Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand. Abhishek MR had watched the Vicky Kaushal starrer film on December 26, 2023. A joint bench of Justices M Shobha, Anita Shivakumar and Suma Anil in its order against the hall has asked the audience to respect their time.

‘In the new era, time is considered money. Everyone’s time is very valuable. No one has the right to take advantage of someone else’s time and money. Sitting and watching what the hall shows for 25/30 minutes is a waste of time.

It is also difficult for people to watch unnecessary advertisements, instead they can spend time with their family. This does not mean that people have nothing else to do, the court said.

Nepali movie theaters have also faced similar allegations. In particular, Nepali viewers have been complaining that they are forced to watch advertisements even during premieres. In Nepal, 30 minutes are spent on advertisements, including 15 minutes before the start of a movie and 15 minutes during the intermission.
