Punjab defeats Delhi in the 100th minute to end their playoff chances.
The Delhi Capitals are the first team to be eliminated from the cricket playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Delhi’s dreams of finishing in the top four are dashed after falling to Punjab Kings by 31 runs in the game on Saturday night. Delhi is in last place with 8 points after 12 games. Delhi won’t face the team currently in the top four, even if they win their final two games.
With their sixth victory of the year and a chance to make the playoffs, Punjab was aided by Harpreet Brar’s 4-wicket performance and Prabhashimran Singh’s century. Punjab has 12 points after 12 games, which puts them in sixth place.
Punjab scored 167 runs in the allotted 20 overs at Delhi’s home , the Arun Jaitley Stadium, after losing the toss. Prabhashimaran, the opener for Punjab, hit 103 runs off just 65 balls, using 10 fours and 6 sixes. 20 runs were added by Sam Karan. 11 undefeated runs were scored by Sikander Raja.
Ishant Sharma of Delhi grabbed two wickets, while Akshar Patel, Prava Duve, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar each took one.
Delhi was given a target of 168 runs to chase, but they were only able to get 136 runs after losing 8 wickets. David Warner, the skipper for Delhi, hit 54 runs off just 27 balls, using 10 fours and 1 six. 21 runs were added by Pidya Salt. Praveen Duve and Aman Hakeem Khan both scored 16 runs.
Harpreet Brar of Punjab grabbed 4 wickets to keep Delhi from achieving the goal. Rahu Chahar and Nathan Ellis both claimed two wickets.
