Nepal cricket has changed in a month
With a record 177-run victory over UAE at the Trivi Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Sunday, Nepal has secured the one-day international recognition for the next four years. After the ninth win in the last 10 matches, Nepal is certain to be in the top five of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two.
After winning the remaining two matches in the seven-team League Two series, Nepal will play the one-day World Cup global qualifier. This tournament will be held in Zimbabwe next July. The ODI World Cup will be held in India in October-November.
Before the triangular series between Nepal, Scotland and Namibia started on February 2, there was nothing promising in Nepali cricket. Nepal had reached a weak position in the three-year-long series among the seven recognized one-day internationals determined by the International Cricket Council ICC.
During the League Two series, Nepal tested five coaches, the regular series was postponed due to the Corona epidemic, three captains were changed, the atmosphere in the team was disturbed, the team unity was broken, the captain Sandeep Lamichhane went to jail for pre-trial on the charge of minor rape and Nepal forgot to win. Before February 2, Nepal had won only 2 of the last 10 games in League Two. They were winless in the last series.
