Director Bhutia and Sikkim Film Board Chairman Sharma to go to Cannes Festival
Nepali film director Samten Bhutia and Sikkim Film Promotion Board Chairperson Pooja Sharma are going to participate in this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India is going to send both the filmmakers representing the state of Sikkim to the world prestigious festival.
They are going to present Nepalese traditional costumes like choli and fariya on the red carpet under the Indian Pavilion of Cannes. Celebrating it as ‘Sikkim Day’ in Cannes, they have prepared to give a message to develop this northeastern state of India as a filming location for international films.
To develop film tourism in Sikkim, they are preparing to show videos of attractive locations, meet international celebrities and distribute film shooting catalogues. “This will be a special exposure visit,” Sikkim Film Promotion Board Chairperson Sharma told Online News.
This visit to Cannes will focus on study and observation. It will also help to prepare for next year’s festival,” she said. Director Bhutia has directed the films Letter, Sade Saat, Tyandro, Angat, Chach Hui and Suskera and has written the screenplays of Mantra and Lovesub.
