Chelsea sign Nkunku and get £25m Kovacic bid from Manchester City
French striker Christopher Nkunku has joined the English club Chelsea. He was brought in by Chelsea from the German club RB Leipzig for 52 million pounds. The 25-year-old scored 16 goals in 25 games in the Bundesliga last season. Nkunku has played 10 matches for France.
He is the first player brought in by Mauricio Pochettino, who became Chelsea’s head coach last May.
“I am very happy to come to Chelsea. They tried to bring me to the club. I am excited for this challenge and I feel proud to wear the Chelsea jersey”, Nkunku said, “After the Bundesliga, I am going to play in the Premier League, which is one of the strongest in the world. I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates.
Nkunku’s agreement will come into effect from July 1. He played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for four years before signing for Leipzig in 2019.
There he won the league title once and the French Cup title twice. He was named Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season with 20 goals and 15 assists in the 2021-22 season.
He scored in the final when Leipzig won the German Cup for the second year in a row this month.
Last season, Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga. Nkunku made his debut for France in 2022. He missed the World Cup due to injury.
