The hillsides around Dharan are filling up with hotels and parks

It was a jungle, theft and robbery used to happen. Drug users were seen everywhere. It was difficult to walk alone during the day. After dusk, there was a fear of robbery even in vehicles going to Dhankuta. But now these places are bustling and bustling until midnight, said Padam Rai, a local of Dharan-13.


‘It feels great to see hotel resorts popping up all over the hills. Hundreds of youth have found jobs in the hotel resorts. More infrastructure is being built. Now this place has developed into a must-visit destination for tourists coming to Dharan,’ he said.

Osho Park built in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-13 is expanding as the main attraction for domestic and foreign tourists. The park built about six km above Dharan’s main market, Bhanuchowk, where dozens of parks have been built simultaneously, including SDB, Rock Garden, BP Park, built with Shramdan.
The lush greenery and lush flowers around the place attract tourists. Sandeep Limbu of Panchthar, who has reached Osho Park, says, “When I came to this place five to seven years ago, there were forests and bushes all around. Now, such a good park has been built.”

“Now, we are trying to do some work at the local level to add some parks and forest picnic spots. We have come up with a plan to create an environment that reflects local culture in hotel parks,” said Netra Kafle, ward chair of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-13.

“We have been regulating and facilitating the construction of new hotels and parks. The sub-metropolitan city is preparing a detailed plan to protect and develop the northern area of ​​Dharan. There is a plan to connect this place with the beauty identity of Dharan,” said Ward Chair Kafle.

The number of domestic tourists visiting here from various parts of Nepal including Sunsari, Morang, Jhapa, Biratnagar is increasing. Family reunions, family outings, and birthday programs are also increasing here. Hoteliers said that the hotels here offer Nepali cuisine, local ethnic cuisine, Dharane black pig Sekuwa, Sukuti, Tongba, and other local dishes.
